School Nurse

Gail Shapira School Nurse

Hi-- so glad you stopped by!

My name is Gail Shapira, and (happily for me) this is my 15th year as the School Nurse at Rodgers Forge, and my 24th year living in our community.

As you can probably guess by looking at my photo, I have many years of experience as an RN.  In my (gulp) four decades-plus as a nurse I’ve worked in an ICU, CCU, Labor & Delivery, and an Adolescent Pregnancy Program, with most of that experience being at Johns Hopkins Hospital.  My own educational background includes a BSN and a Master’s degree from the College of Notre Dame.

Before working here at the Forge I worked at Chesapeake High School, in Eastern Baltimore County.  And while working at Chesapeake was a great experience, I can say with all my heart, that there is no place I’d rather be than here at Rodgers Forge Elementary School.

Even though I’m not a teacher, in 2010 I was honored to have been nominated by the PTA of our school as the Educator of the Year, and was subsequently selected by the PTA Council of Baltimore County as the county-wide winner of that title.  I’m so appreciative that the educational aspect of the nursing profession was recognized and acknowledged by our school and our county.

In every single school in Baltimore County, health services are available on a daily basis, and include the administration of medications and treatments, as well as emergency care.  And believe me, accidents do happen, and my skills and experience are often called upon.

One of my favorite parts of working here at Rodgers Forge is the opportunity to do an annual school musical with our fourth and fifth graders and many volunteers.  We start working on the show in January and present it in May.  It’s a ton of work, but even more fun—please come and support us.

To contact me, please feel free to call the Health Suite directly, at 410-296-2437, or email me at

I look forward to speaking to you.

Gail Shapira, RN
